Stuart supports the team with all things financial, and with the general day-to-day running of the organisation. If you have a query about an invoice, he’s the person to speak to!
Stu grew up in Leeds and has a background in self-organised ‘DIY’ creative activity, as a musician, technician, artist and organiser. The open and inclusive community nature of such ‘grassroots’ activity is something that has made a big impression on him, and he feels very at home at Purple Patch who he feels embody this spirit.
Stu has a degree in Audio Technology and a Librarianship qualification, he spent ten years working as a book cataloguer by day and sound engineer by night. He replaced the library with video projection at Lumen Arts in Leeds and continues to work as a technician at outdoor events, art galleries, theatres and film festivals around the country.
As a musician he has toured the UK and Ireland with bands in a self-organised DIY manner, meeting lots of like-minded people and arguably seeing the best sides of the places he’s been. Stu sees finance as very similar to technical work and is happy that it allows him to spend some of the week working indoors in one place and lift nothing heavier than a cup of tea.
Stu loves listening to music, playing guitar and anything with strings on it, though rarely plays the same thing twice. He also loves walking, open-water swimming and being outdoors as much as possible – when not engrossed in a tasty spreadsheet of course!
